Our Results

  • Protected Land & Shorelines

    Acquired over 50 per cent of the lower Oxtongue River for permanent protection, including 6.5 km of shoreline.


    Preserved over 1.8 kilometres of natural shoreline and 47 acres of forest at Port Cunnington.

      

    Partnered with the Ontario Heritage Trust to be the steward of the 100 acre Pyke property near Brown's Brae.

  • Protected Heritage

    Recognized more than 60 building owners with plaques for heritage property protection. 


    Encouraged the Township to create a Heritage Advisory Committee to advocate for protection of historical and cultural history of the Lake and surrounding area.


    Researched and published the history of  over 10 communities in video and printed format. 


    Rescued the Bigwin ferry from a sunken mooring in 1991 and conducted feasibility studies for restoration. 

  • Community Engagement

    Held an annual Silent Boat Rally on the lower Oxtongue River for the past 10 years.


    Established the Harriet T. Weaver Memorial Trust which funds two bursaries each year to assist one student from each of Bracebridge and Huntsville high schools to help in paying for their first year of university or college.


    Conducted 6 nature events for our members each year led by specialists.


    Welcomed many naturalist and school groups to discover and learn about natural history at our Marsh’s Falls property.
