Protected Properties

The Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation stewards five protected properties in the Lake of Bays area. Our stewardship volunteers care for and monitor these lands to protect their natural features and habitats and help maintain their ecological health for future generations.

Three properties, Marsh’s Falls Nature Reserve, Westermain Woods and the Marianne Girling Nature Reserve, are owned by the Foundation. The Egbert Boothby and Pyke properties are owned by the Ontario Heritage Trust and stewarded by the Foundation on its behalf.

These five properties encompass more than 750 acres of forests, wetlands and other natural habitats, including 6.5 kilometres of shoreline along the Lower Oxtongue River and more than 2 kilometres of shoreline on Lake of Bays.

Each property is described below, along with ecological information about its natural features, habitats and species.
